What are you thankful for?

by seantm

Tell me what you’re thankful or grateful for and win an Ipod touch.

When I was younger I used to keep a gratitude journal. I had heard there were benefits to being grateful so I thought ”why not?” I would try this exercise for 30 days.

I would spend 10 minutes a night writing down the things I was grateful for that had happened that day. I got some enormous benefits from that exercise that have lasted throughout the years.

The most important benefit I got from it was a habit of being grateful. I take the time daily to think about things I am grateful for. I do it because it makes me feel good and I truly realize how blessed  I am.

Some new research has been done that proves being grateful or thankful is beneficial to your well being. I did some research for this post and found an interesting article that provided some evidence on the benefits of being grateful.

Heres an excerpt:

So on this Thanksgiving I ask – what are you grateful for?

Leave a comment and let me know. I will be awarding the Ipod in the next few days.

::UPDATE::

After much debate I awarded the ipod to Ellen Crimi Trent. I read and re-read each and every entry and it was damn near impossible to pick a winner. I even tried asking my friends on Facebook for numbers  to randomly pick a winner. I then got lost in the calculation and trying to make sense of those numbers, so I went back to reading the comments and finding one that I felt really moved me.

It was tough picking a winner as there were many that stopped me in my tracks and made me think. So I picked 3 and then asked 2 of my employees to read them and tell me their 3 favorites. Ellen’s came up with both of them. So boom you have your winner.

The reason it moved me? Well I can relate to almost every sentence in her comment. I too feel like I am lucky, I wake up everyday thankful for my life and what I do. I too am thankful for the hardships and crazy negatives that have happened in my life as most of the time they were catalysts to bigger and better things. Finally like Ellen I am grateful for all the amazing people I have met through social media. Most of our employees have come through relationships built using social media and beyond that I have made many great connections, friendships, etc using social media. So that is why I picked Ellen.

Thanks again for everyone of you who took the time to post a comment. I hope it was as beneficial for you as it is to me to take the time and stop and think how grateful I am for everything.

The opportunity to work along side my dad in our family business for the last 24 years. I only hope I get at least 24 more with him. Doug Belleville

After losing my two best friends in the past two years, I am thankful for all the new lifelong friendships I have made through Social Media...all my followers on Twitter and friends on Facebook have helped to get me through the worst time in my life, and I'll always be grateful of that.

Most importantly I am grateful for my wonderful kids and my health (no major illnesses or diseases! Yeah!) but additionally, I am extremely grateful that I was born and raised in the United States. After having traveled the world and seen first hand living conditions in other countries, the poverty and the lack of food, shelter and warmth, I appreciate more and more what I have been given!

Thankful to for a lot of things have been able to achieve in my life against all odds. And most importantly this year for baby girl gift from God that shared same birthday with me. Best birthday present I ever get in my life. Lateef

As a Cancer survivor I'm simply thankful for life and my family, I'm not sure how much more simple that can be. My wife and son are my world, and had I not beaten Cancer I wouldn't have them now, not to mention wouldn't be able to be writing this comment. I was born with a very rare genetic condition and didn't found out until I almost died when I was 19. The doctors gave me until I was 25 at best, 20 at worst, and here I am at 42 and still kicking. So that's what I'm the most thankful about.

I'm grateful for opposition! Individually, opposition makes us stronger in every dimension...physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Opposition forces us to innovate our businesses, stretch our creative muscles to satisfy emerging needs.

I'm grateful for mac osx, because when I visit a website, it warns me that there may be malware on it.

Sean- Thanks for the reply, and I didn't mean to take anything away from folks who are thankful for family, friends, or the awesome info you and Lewis provide. If I came across that way I apologize. I imagine I have an inherent need to set myself apart online (hence why I look to guys like you for help) and wanted to reach for a bit more insight in my comment. I tell people that divorce is not something I would wish on anyone, even an amicable one. Support and good friends are key in these tough situations, and it helps us all endure. Thank you for your kind words and for all of your help. Keep the great posts and webinars coming!

Hi Sean, Last week while I was going through some serious stuff, I was contemplating this very question. While we all are thankful for health, family, friends, food and a place to live in, I was searching for something more deep. I came to the conclusion that I am thankful that I am one of the lucky ones, a person who is completely in love with what I do for work, and therefore can wake up each day more excited than the next that I get to create new world for myself and other people! I am also thankful for even the hardships in my life if you can believe it.. because without them I could not be who I am today.. and as I write this, I am going through some tough stuff, but I welcome it knowing the knowledge I gain from it, will help me even further in life! I am also thankful for all my many fun and wonderful friends I have met in this Social Media world including you Sean! Best, Ellen

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner.

I am thankful for so much. I have a wonderful daughter; a loving wife; and many friends. I have a roof over my head and understanding boss who helps me keep it there. I've made it into my 40s with only a couple chronic health issues that I discovered are surprisingly common when people get talking. When I was a kid, I read this SF story about a guy in the future who worked from home and connected into this world wide network of computers to do his job. I'm now living in the sci-fi world that was fiction when I was a kid.

I am thankful for life! Without that I would never get to go through the good and the bad times. I would never get to see the beautiful smile of my daughter when she tells me she loves me and I wouldn't have a chance to see her grow up. Everyday when I wake up it is a blessing, because I have the luxury of living today! Each breath we take is a gift, be thank full my friends. Want to learn how to be thankful, take a look at a loved one while they are sleeping. And think about you not being able to see that, then you will learn that there are more things in life to be thankful for than you ever realized.

As silly as it sounds, I am very thankful for my dog. He gets me out of the house on a daily basis, keeps me active, reminds me of the simple joy that comes from goofing around and the power of a good snuggle. As someone once said, "My goal in life is to be as good a person as my dog thinks I am." Amen. Oh...and my husband too. I don't want him to feel left out. :-)

Hi Sean, Great post. It's so important to count your blessings daily. Family, friends, good health -these are all the important things in life. I am also grateful to have found amazing people like you through twitter, the internet and blogs. Keep up the good work Best, kim

I am very thankful to be in great health, a family that loves me, an amazing girlfriend, a house to live in, fun friends that lift me up and all the things that are coming to me.

Thx Sean! If you coming over to Holland, let me know, you're very welcome over here! Dutch Roland

Thanks Sean! Hope you're having a great weekend! One of the hardest things for me to learn was that the Universe provides what you need, though not always what you want. And not always from the source you want it from. Isn't it funny how we want not only what we want but we want it from a particular source, and most of the time, it's about control as opposed to 'what's fair?' These are tough times, but they can be good times. What do we really need to be happy? What can I do that's positive today? There's three things I say to myself when I feel myself getting stressed out. 1) Breathe... just breathe. 2) Nothing is worth my health 3) What would I do if I wasn't afraid? The last one, of course, is from "Who Moved My Cheese?" by Spencer Johnson, M.D. okay... time to turn off the computer and do analog things. ;-) All the best, Sean! Thanks for this chat and the chat subject! Lil

Thanks Sean! I did read it and it's great! We all knew there was a connection, but it's nice to see it in print! Lil

Hi Sean, I'm thankful for all the wonderful people in my life including my family and friends, even my haters. Life is not always about happiness, so I'm thankful to the problems and worries that made me stronger. Happy Thanksgiving Day to you.

I think a lot of people will say they are grateful for their families and friends(solid, but standard answer) grateful for the information provided by yourself and Lewis (decent, but kiss-up answer). So here's an original, no-BS answer: I am grateful for surviving my divorce for one year without falling apart. I'm grateful for anyone who will teach me something without wanting something in return, no matter how little time they dedicate, how small the lesson, or what the subject. I am grateful to those who help someone who is where I was so that they can come with me where I'm going. Most of all, I'm grateful that happiness is shareable and sadness is curable. Yours in shared awesomeness, Russ the Social Media Brat

This year I am thankful for: all of my family who love and support me, all of the clients I have driven this year, all of the education I have gotten(from people like Sean & Lewis), all of the potential to make the upcoming year as successful a year (hopefully more so.)

I am thankful for family, friends, and health. I am ever so grateful to my husband who keeps me even in an era where divorce/separation is so simple. (today is our anniversary) :) I am thankful for the opportunity to have found you Sean. after weeding through all the scams and useless information, I found the true gem. So refreshing. Love hearing about your family as well. Funny thing tho when growing up if someone was telling an untruth or very distorted story we used the term "your full of ...malarkey" so I often chuckle to myself as I am skimming through my inbox and doing quick deletes of items not worth my time and find the only one worth reading is from Malarkey. Thank you for freely giving great information. Never deleted, as your truly not "full of it"! B.

Friends, family, business, and you, Sean.

Hey Sean, I'm thankful today that we live in a country where, if you're not satisfied with your life you can change it. If you want to start the business of your dreams and help others it's up to you to put in the hard work...and you can make it possible. At the end of the day, for me there's nothing better. Happy T-day! cheers, Michael

Am Thanksful for each morning, the sun rises on a beautiful New day,A day filled with hope.As i awaken,I give thanks and praise through prayer for a time of new opportunities. Today i consider my thoughts and release those may be unproductive or that fail to come from a spiritual awareness.Whatsoever things are good, whatsoever things are true these are the thoughts i hold to this everyday. I consider my words and speak only positive, constructive ones words that praise and give thanks, words that speak of love and joy and understanding.I consider my actions.I use each hour of the day in a positive, constructive manner. I make use of my God given talent in affirmative and creative ways.Thank you,God,for this wonderful Thanksgiving day.

Thankful I woke up this morning...thanks be to God!

Hi Sean, Here's the Dutchman again! Though we don't have Thanksgiving in the Netherlands I'm thankful anyways for: - being healthy and able to do my thing as a entrepeneur - having a supporting wife and two nice boys - visiting CA, UT, NV, AZ Summer '09 making a RV-trip! - the opportunity to communicate with so many nice people by Social Media so far away - the stimulating and motivating Webinar last week I challenge you to let me win the iPod, because how will you get it to Rotterdam, The Netherlands ;-) !? With much appreciation and a wonderful 2011 ahead for you Sean, your family and everybody reading this! Dutch Roland

OH... one last thing. I love this quote from Melody Beattie. Sums it all up pretty well, yah? "Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow." How true is that? Hey, I'm going to go post that on my blog! See ya! Lil

Hi Sean, Like a lot of people I've been unemployed for over a year, and before that it had been a sketchy five years. I have been trying to retool my skills during that time while I look and apply, and hope for an interview. I've been down to my last $500 more than a couple times since, or worse... the 401K is gone, my dog and I have moved in with my mom shortly after. This year has been a tough one, but I wake up grateful everyday. Because of this time, my mom and I have the best relationship we've ever had. You see, I was the one she never really understood. That hasn't changed completely, but we have a new appreciation for one another and the acceptance on both sides has helped to bring us closer together. I'm thankful for this time together because we never know how much time we get. I'm grateful for the wonderful friends who have been there to listen, assist, coach, let be, accept. I'm grateful for my wonderful dog, Cayla, who is a kind companion. I'm thankful for Friday Card Night at Jeannie's house. I'm thankful for Jimmy B's Karaoke at Burger Continental on Mondays, where Jack patiently waits on us while we order the cheese burger special and hot water. I'm thankful for Silverado Canyon, which still holds a sense of nirvana for me as I sit my friend's porch and look at the stars against the black black sky. I'm grateful for the learning opportunities I had this year in both classroom and life. I'm grateful for being able to keep my sense of spirit, humor and peace. I'm thankful for everyday and the weather is brings. I'm thankful for tea houses, pubs, friends, alone time, mom's cats, moments, feelings, thoughts and the internet. I'm grateful for everyday, because this is the one we get. I try to make the most of it, and share my joy with those that are open to it. Thanks for asking, Sean. Lil

Give thanks with a grateful heart Give thanks to the Holy One Give thanks because He's given Jesus Christ his son My thanks start from those lines above and extend to the rest of my life for without Jesus Christ ....

Hi Sean! Thank you so much for the reflective post. Above all, I am grateful for my health. Without it, I would not be able to experience all the magnificent things that life has to offer. I am truly blessed and felt so inspired after reading all of the above comments. Happy Thanksgiving to each and every one of you and may your 2011 and beyond be full of love and happiness. Thank you Sean! Meredith

I'm thankful for living in a country where we are free to pursue our dreams as well as worship freely. I am also very thankful for my wonderful family who I love to laugh and at times cry with. I'm thankful that I have family and friends to go through life's ups and downs with and that there are people who love me unconditionally.

I'm thankful for torrents! Without them all of us poor folk wouldn't be able to enjoy the many wonderful internet marketing products that are available today. I keep on suggesting having internet marketers implement a "student discount" that way we can pay something for the information products we download for free. Anyhow, don't know where I'd be today if I couldn't find all these great products online for free.

I'm thankful for forgiveness. Without it friends would be scarce, Salvation would be impossible, & life would be dark. I'm thankful for my family. They seem to be blinded by love & can't see my massive flaws & insecurities. They accept me in spite of my temper, my selfishness, & my ego. I'm thankful for my Lord. Without Him, what's the point? Guess it all comes back to forgiveness driven by love. Also, thankful you asked what I am thankful for. Great reflective time! Appreciate you! Happy Thanksgiving. WMT

I am always thankful for the basic things in life. Here's a song I wrote... unfortunately you can't hear the melody but it's pretty upbeat and easy. If anyone reads this comment and wants to hear the melody I will sing it for you! Call 608-467-0067. Or if enough people want to hear it, Sean and Lewis you guys might have to set up a webinar :-) Here it is: Thank you sun - for all that grows. Thank you ocean - for all that flows. Thank you sky - for all that breathes. Thank you earth - beneath my feet. Oooh mama y'done it right Oooh mama she's quite a sight Oooh mama y'done it right Oooh mama she's quite a sight (Repeat as many times as you want -- and/or sing the two parts together) Then... Thank you for the things that I can see Thank you for the mystery... Thank you for the things that I can see Thank you for the mystery... (Repeat to fade) By Brenda Bernstein and Aliza Rabinowitz. Sung on ALisa Starkweather's album Women Rise Up

Hi, Sean! Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours as well! I am thankful for many things: God, Family, and Country, of course. And business contacts that make a difference in the way online networking grows and prospers. Thanks for YOUR works in this regard! I posted here for the holiday - More to Celebrate This Thanksgiving! : http://makingmoneywithaffilatesads.blogspot.com/2010/11/more-to-celebrate-this-thanksgiving.html - enjoy your day! Walter "Thanksgiving Day comes, by statute, once a year; to the honest man it comes as frequently as the heart of gratitude will allow." -Edward Sandford Martin

Walter - thanks for the kudos. Isn't it incredible how Social Media has made it so easy to make amazing connections for friendship and business? We are blessed to live in this time.

Since we're all into social media, beside the obviously family, friends, etc, I'm thankful that technology is allowing people around the world to communicate, connect and build relationships in powerful ways. Keep up the great work Sean! - Chris (@cniermann)

Gracias Chris, I couldn't agree more. That's the true beauty of Social Media.

I'm blessed and thankful of course for my family. My husband and kids saved me from a horrible depression and I thank them everyday by showing them all my love. I'm thankful for the Internet! I've gained some awesome friends that I've never met in life but I sure do know a lot about them- sometimes more than people in IRL. I'm thankful that I have a job and I love my customers. I'm thankful everyone who has crossed my paths (good or bad) in the past 41 years because they have made who I am today and I really love who I am. Thank you Sean Malarkey

Hi, Sean, I'm thankful that my kids are finding their own lives and purposes, even though it means they're too far away for us all to be together on Thanksgiving. I'm really thankful that they're doing this in their 20's -- they have so many years ahead of them to enjoy who they really are instead of who anybody else thinks they should be! Happy Thanksgiving! Allison

As I get older, I'm most thankful for a happy, healthy family. I'm thankful that I was able to raise three really good people who contribute to their community and circle of friends. I'm very grateful for my two grandsons and hope that they grow up to be as decent and wonderful as their parents. I'm thankful for my brother and sister who are pretty much the only family I have left (other than my own and theirs of course) as they support and sustain me all through my life journey. Their kids are all wonderful examples of our family ethics and I'm thankful for them too. They bring me joy all the time. Also, I'm thankful that I live in a 'free' country where I can do what I most like to do, and I can say 'Happy Thanksgiving Day' to my American friends, even though I'm Canadian and celebrated Thanksgiving Day a month ago. I especially am glad that I can say Happy Thanksgiving Day, or Merry Christmas or Happy Hanukkah or 'whatever' and know that I will not be be reviled as a HATER of whatever sect I have not mentioned. And I am grateful for my many friends, personal and online who make me glad each day to be alive and relating.

I am thankful for every next minute. I am thankful for the free will to choose what I am going to do in that next minute. I am thankful that I was given the insight to make that next minute a happy minute, a useful minute, a minute that I know should never go to waste. I am thankful for the wonderment of it all.

Hey Sean! Happy Thanksgiving! It sounds like you had an awesome day! I am thankful for my family, especially my Handsome Hubby and his undying support. We have such plans for our future with a big change coming this summer. It's exciting, yet a bit unsettling all at the same time. Also, my friends who are always there for me, no matter what, and especially for my health. I'm learning just how important being healthy is! Enjoy your weekend, Suz

I am Blessed to have so much. Starting with my Amish roots that have taught me how to work hard and what it means to come from a large family. For community all around me. Thankful for freedom to pursue my life passions and to live live to the fullest and not taking any of my senses for granted. Life is beautiful!! Cheryl

For the obvious, I suppose- good health, a good job, good friends, and family and living in the best possible place in the world.

I am thankful that I still have both my parents in my life. It has been a rough year of caregiving with illnesses and decisions. My parents are in their eighties with many health issues so I am glad they were both able to enjoy the day. I am also thankful for good friends who are there to support me when I need a shoulder to lean on myself.

Thankful for my Grandfather, Chuck, who lived until he was 92. Although he was old and definitely had some health issues, he died today somewhat unexpectedly. He was a quiet man but was quick with his wit and told great stories about his WWII experiences. I am thankful that I got to spend 38 years of my life with him and my kids (his great-grandchildren) got to spend 7 years of theirs and will remember him when the grow up. He will rest in peace.
