How @ThanMerrill added 9k new email subscribers in 5 months from Twitter

by seantm

About 5 months ago, a mutual friend Introduced me to Than Merrill as he was needing help figuring out how to use Twitter for his online business and for his real estate business. He had been fledgling along for over a year and was not getting any value out of  Twitter.

In the few weeks that followed that introduction we had several phone calls & one on one webinars where I got a good understanding of his goals and needs and gave him some advice on how he could use Twitter.

In this call you will here how Than & his company:

  • Added 9,000 new leads to their email list
  • Added over 150,000 new followers in 5 months
  • Tracks his progress on Twitter (he has this down to a science)
  • Spends 5-10 minutes a day on Twitter & remains effective and relevant
  • And much more

Listen Here

A few things to note –  we did this on skype with the webcams running and at one point when I was asking him about the value of the lead – I saw him reach for his iPhone, so you’ll here me ask him “are you calculating the value of the lead?”. I should have recorded that skype call with video, I dont know why I didnt think to do that.

The most Important thing I want you to take away is that Than had a plan.  He had a simple blueprint and the tracking in place to measure his results. Anyone can do this – that is if you have the discipline to make a plan – measure your results and stick with it.

It was a pretty fun call and I think we will do a follow up – so please if there is anything more you want to hear or for me to ask him – leave it in the comment section and I’m sure I can get your questions answered.

Thank you for posting this Sean, I look forward to your Information Marketing Event with Than Merrill. Thank you for inviting me. **Jeannie

Amazing results from 10 mins work each day - I am a newbie and get so engaged that I can get taken off in all directions from one persons site to another and it is becoming addictive, fun also but i need to hone in on the time spent on twitter - it's addictive!! Lovely to hear what amazing results have been achieved from your expert advice Sean!!

Amazing results Sean. Great interview. This clearly proves that Twitter, leveraged w/ webinars/blogs can be a potent traffic driver, list building tool and profit generator. I think the key is adding value to whatever place you send folks to. One aspect I think that was understated was that he is sending some of the Twitter stuff to Facebook so it isn't entirely Twitter. The content is syndicated to at least one other place we know of. I think the time effort is understated ..... but I'll take him at his word. 5 mins just seems WAAAAY too low given that type of growth. Must be little to no personal interaction on the network itself, except users on Facebook answering each others questions. That was the only part I simply couldn't agree with or believe, to be blunt. I am glad for his success. Way to hustle! Dan Ross @BetterBizIdeas

Hey Dan, Thanks for the comment - regarding his time spent. I find it very easy to believe. Take a peek at his Twitter stream and you'll see what I mean. He has updated his stream around 20 times in the last week. How long would that take you? On the flip side - that time spent does not include anyone on his staff. Any case - a tremendous use of social media and a strong ROI.

Sorry guys this audio is messed up - trying to get it resolved.... bare with me Sean

Yup, I get a whole bunch of non-audio :( Something is hosed up. I hope you are able to get it working Sean. Dan Ross @BetterBizIdeas

Hi I can't listen either, tried downloading but it said it was corrupted.

Jay, Thanks for the heads up - It was working and now seems to be broken....??? I will look into it today and get it fixed! Sean

Hi The audio on this doesn't seem to be working - sits at 'buffering' for ever despite the buffering bar being full. Am on a mac, firefox. Do you have this in another format in another place? Thanks Jay
